Tuning scapes is the debut EP from effe effe, the solo project of composer, sound designer and violist Federica Furlani.
Tuning scapes is a culmination of effe effe's research on music, sound design and soundscape, formulating an electroacoustic hypothesis that offers a way to listen to the world through a new lens.
It's a harmonization of noises with digital sounds, field recordings with the most minimalistic electronic timbres, strings patterns with few but solid rhythmic structures, transient movements and spaces of contemplation. You may feel a tension between chaos and order, abstract and tangible, digital and analog, the inner and outer worlds, and the orchestral blend of this variable duality.
The EP begins with "INTRO", an invitation, as well as a declaration. A viola arpeggio, as simple as it could be. Then a deep sound transformation, following the EP title. Soon the sonic landscape becomes surreal.
You’re welcomed by a voice in "Self sprung", a new environment poised between excitement and peace.
"Eight pointed star" is an ode to femininity, to pure sound and vibration with no compromises.
In "VODOUN", an underground dance temporarily comes to life, a tingling of exiled and improbable sounds belonging to different races and species, coexisting in a collective celebration, a symptom of an unlikely yet possible symbiosis.
While listening to Tuning scapes , you’ll travel through waves of softness that smoothly become harder, more concrete, until they finally turn into rhythmic gestures, like tentacles exploring unknown landscapes. Eventually, you'll be back to silence, but with a new look at your surroundings.
